Calendar: Some Dates To Remember
2017, A YEAR OF NATURAL DISASTERS. Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria (not to mention a serious earthquake in Mexico). We have always made a point of rousing ourselves to help out our friends in need, from the traumas of Katrina (2005) and Haiti (2010), to the disaster at Fukushima (2011). Now we are sending out a similar call on behalf of the victims of 2017's disasters. The International Red Cross and American Red Cross are solid and experienced organizations capable of delivering much needed aid. We recommend donating to them on behalf of these victims, or to other involved and proven aid providers. The damage is severe, and support will be required far into the future. Thanks for your help! JRS
March 2016: LATEST WRITING. For those who haven't yet found it, lots of my latest writing may be seen on my 'J Rainsnow' Facebook page, which exists to promote my MARCH OF THE ECCENTRICS novel (see http://www.marchoftheeccentrics.com/ ), as well as to serve as a blog-like outlet for my OSS (overactive self-expression syndrome) issues. The exact address of my FB is: https://www.facebook.com/J-Rainsnow-416053158548175/ Another possible link of interest is
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1S7TwcbrGi7OUNJNmx0dFhtMFU/view?usp=sharing , which leads to my Facebook Archive 1. (Please copy & paste into browser.) I've built that site to deal with the fact that the FB robot automatically removes many posts over time in order to keep pages 'neat and trim'; but for writers in love with their work, it is a case of overzealous housecleaning such as resulted in the destruction of Thomas Carlyle's history of the French Revolution in 1835 (for more on that incident, see M.G. King's wonderful little article at: http://mgking.us/2012/09/the-book-burning-chamber-maid/ ). My FB Archive 1 preserves my entire post inventory from 2014 through the end of 2015. I have been less silent in these last years than is widely believed... Best wishes to all, JRS
PS: Now there's also a FB Archive 2 at:

August 2015: WEB HOST CHANGES. Some recent technical transitions at our web host have produced some changes in the way our site functions. For one, looks like our old-style hit counter is down for the count! Too bad, I enjoyed watching the numbers of our modest but steady operation growing. We were up to 25,000 or more visits to the home page alone, and the rate of views was on an upswing - hopefully, it still is! I'm still poking around to see if there are any other functions that also got left behind, but keeping my fingers crossed that I won't find any, and that we are intact and 100% operational.

THE MYSTERY OF 2010-2015 EXPLAINED. Why so little new activity going on at rainsnow.org? During this time, J Rainsnow shifted primary creative focus to an enormous novel he was working on, which has now been self-published as The March of the Eccentrics. This work, a satire of global dimensions, is better explained on its own web site, http://www.marchoftheeccentrics.com. It is very different from a lot of the material posted here, but consistent, in a roundabout way, with our underlying aims at rainsnow.org, which are to promote a fairer and more beautiful world. That work may sometimes be done in a straightforward expositional manner, or sometimes via more boisterous and controversial means, as the novel attempts. Although I do hope to expand and add to rainsnow.org in the months ahead, present energies are now largely being directed into the promotion of the novel, its connection to an audience and useful social endeavors, the creation of one or more screenplays, and updates and musings on my "J Rainsnow" Facebook page, which has currently become my main day-to-day mouthpiece. We'll keep you appraised, and in the meantime do our best to maintain the expansive resources which we, with your cooperation and encouragement, have taken such care to build here over the years. Sincerely, JRS

Reposted (with slight changes) from my 'J Rainsnow' Facebook page (April 26, 2015):
EARTHQUAKE IN NEPAL. A 7.8 magnitude earthquake originating northwest of Katmandu has caused serious damage and loss of human life in Nepal and also parts of India, Bangladesh, and Tibet. TO HELP contribute to relief efforts, you may use the following link from the US: http://www.redcross.org , and from there follow links to disaster relief for Nepal, or else go to the homepage of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, at: http://www.ifrc.org/ , which also contains a link for aiding in this crisis. A lot of assistance is going to be needed. As someone compassionate & wise once said: "We do not know why we are here, but we know we must help each other."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Between 2010-2015 there have been few new additions to this site, due to a temporary emphasis on off-line work, and the development of other projects. This situation is likely to continue for a while longer, but hopefully sometime in 2015/16 some of the fruits of this out-of-sight labor will begin to manifest in a visible way, and the site will undergo a new phase of expansion. In the meantime, some of the material on the site will be modified in order to reflect changes of substance and/or perspectives on presentation which have been taking place over the last several years.
Continuing Need In The Wake Of Previous Disasters: This web site has previously put out calls for aid on behalf of the victims of the earthquake/tsunami which struck Japan in 2011, the earthquake which devastated Haiti in 2010, and Hurricane Katrina (which hit New Orleans and the US Gulf Coast in 2005). There was also considerable damage done by Hurricane Sandy which battered parts of New York in 2012. Disasters of this kind typically leave long-term problems in their wake which take years to heal, but international giving often drops precipitously after the initial shock to the global consciousness wears off. Continued support to the areas and people affected by these disasters is therefore greatly appreciated and may be given via the American Red Cross at www.redcross.org , which will direct funds towards the relief/recovery efforts designated by the donor. For a list of some other organizations contributing to the betterment of the world - for disaster relief directed towards high-visibility crises is only one way of helping (not that that is all the Red Cross does) - please see "Sites of Interest" on this web site. Thanks for all you do, JRS.

Calendar: Some Dates To Remember
Some days have a significance that we recognize. Others do not. And yet, in every day, the powerful energy of personal and collective histories resides. It waits there to remind us, warn us, inspire us, enlighten us, move us, and nourish us with wealth beyond our own experience. Following, is a highly personal list of some of the days which I feel are most important to me, and to others, as times of reflection, celebration, or remembrance.
